annual gingerbread houses

For the past 25 years, my grandmother has hosted our family's cherished gingerbread house tradition, which I've been apart of since I was little. Each holiday season, I help my grandmother make over 10 gingerbread houses from scratch - rolling homemade dough, cutting out templates, baking, and assembling the houses.

 

The best part is decorating, with the table overflowing with candies and icing. Every house becomes it's own unique masterpiece, everything from classic cottages to funky candy displays. This is one of my favourite Christmas traditions spent with all my cousins and family members.
